LOCAL PRICE QUESTIONS
Gold price in India: FAQ
Clear answers to the questions buyers ask before comparing gold prices, units and dealer offers.
Why is the retail gold price in India higher than the price shown here?
This page shows a spot-derived metal value. An Indian jewellery invoice can also include 3% GST on the transaction value, making charges, wastage, design work and retailer margin. Coins and bars also carry minting, packaging and distribution premiums.
Should I follow the gold price per gram or per tola in India?
Jewellery and small bullion products are usually compared per gram, while the tola remains familiar in many traditional transactions. One tola equals 11.6638 grams. Use the same weight, purity and update time when comparing two quotes.
How is GST applied to gold in India?
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs states that GST is charged at 3% on the total transaction value of jewellery, whether making charges are shown separately or not. Job-work and other business arrangements can have separate treatment, so ask for an itemised GST invoice.
Why are 24K, 22K and 18K gold prices different in India?
24K is the fine-gold reference and is commonly used for bars and coins. 22K, about 91.7% pure, is a common Indian jewellery standard, while 18K is 75% gold and is often used for stone-set or contemporary designs.
Is the gold rate the same in every Indian city?
The international benchmark and rupee conversion are shared reference points, but the final rate can vary between Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and other cities because of logistics, local competition, product availability, making charges and dealer margin.
How often is this gold price updated?
The page refreshes its spot and currency references approximately every three minutes while the tab is visible, then refreshes once when you return. The timestamp beside the live rate shows the latest successful update.
What gold products are popular in India?
22K jewellery is widely bought for personal use, weddings and gifting. Buyers seeking investment exposure often compare 24K coins and bars, paying attention to hallmarking, refinery or mint recognition, invoice terms and the dealer's buyback policy.
Which gold price unit should I track in India?
Use INR per gram for jewellery, small bars and scrap comparisons. INR per tola is useful when a seller quotes traditional weights. Always compare the same karat: a 22K rate should not be compared directly with a 24K rate.
