LOCAL PRICE QUESTIONS
Gold price in Singapore: FAQ
Clear answers to the questions buyers ask before comparing gold prices, units and dealer offers.
Why is the retail gold price in Singapore higher than the price shown here?
This page shows a spot-derived value in Singapore dollars. Retail prices can also include fabrication, mint or refinery premium, secure delivery, payment costs, storage and dealer margin. Smaller bars and collectible coins usually carry higher percentage premiums.
Is gold priced by gram or troy ounce in Singapore?
Singapore dealers commonly display both. Grams and kilograms are practical for metric bars, while international bullion comparisons use the troy ounce, equal to 31.1035 grams. Do not confuse it with the 28.3495-gram household ounce.
Is investment gold subject to GST in Singapore?
The import and supply of qualifying investment precious metals are exempt from GST when the metal and product meet IRAS purity, form and tradability criteria. Qualifying gold generally requires at least 99.5% purity. Jewellery and non-qualifying numismatic products are treated differently.
Why are 24K, 22K and 18K gold prices different in Singapore?
24K is the fine-gold reference, 22K is about 91.7% gold and 18K is 75% gold. Investment bars are commonly 999.9 fine, while jewellery uses alloys for strength and colour. Only the fine-gold content determines melt value.
Why do Singapore gold dealers quote different prices?
They start from a similar SGD market reference, but premiums differ by brand, bar size, coin, inventory, payment method, delivery, storage and buyback policy. Compare the final price and resale spread rather than only the displayed premium.
How often is this gold price updated?
The page refreshes its spot and currency references approximately every three minutes while the tab is visible, then refreshes once when you return. The timestamp beside the live rate shows the latest successful update.
What gold products are popular in Singapore?
Metric bars from recognised refiners and qualifying legal-tender bullion coins are widely available. Buyers should check purity, refinery or mint recognition, serial or assay packaging, storage options and the dealer's repurchase terms.
Which gold price unit should I track in Singapore?
Use SGD per gram for metric bars, jewellery and scrap, and SGD per troy ounce for global bullion comparisons. If storage or delivery is included, separate those charges before comparing the metal price.
